Dust Mites

What are dust mites?

Dust mites are microscopic organisms that belong to the arachnid family, representing the leading cause of respiratory allergies in adults and children.

There are thousands of species of these biological pollutants, but the ones that cause most allergic diseases live within our homes! They are dermatophagoides, or "eaters" of skin, which proliferate where there is flaking skin, and they need a dark, moist and warm environment. Therefore, places like beds, sofas, carpets and rugs are ideal for their survival and reproduction.

These pollutants eliminate a protein in their feces (Derp 1) which causes allergy by being inhaled. Thus, the greater the number of mites (or of this protein), the greater the probability of allergy. When we sit or lie down in bed, when we shake rugs or pillows, is as if we sprayed these allergens into the air ... - and, when they fall back, they are inhaled, causing allergies and triggering crises of rhinitis, asthma, bronchitis and sinusitis or conjunctivitis.

How to eliminate them?

AIRFREE® air purifiers eliminate up to 99% of dust mites allergens and help to keep the air free from other air allergens and micro-organisms, representing a great ally in improving allergy sufferers’ quality of life.

How does it work?

It drastically reduces air allergens by incinerating microorganisms. As a result, contaminated air is dragged through the Airfree® ceramic centre and destroyed at high temperatures. This air purifying cycle is silent, requires no maintenance and is ensured by numerous tests.

FAQ

Q: How will an air purifier help me, if dust mites are not airborne?

A: Based on above text, what really causes allergies are the airborne allergens or those on the pillow or other fabric surface, once inhaled. Airfree will take care of the airborne kinds. To take care of the allergens on the surfaces, proper washing and dust mite covers/sheets are recommended.

Q: Does Airfree destroy dust mites itself?

A: Some studies have shown that some type of dust mites depend on certain types of mold for helping their digestions. Based on those studies, once reducing the mentioned types of mold, the dust mites may face difficulties in their digestions and therefore will starve.

In conclusion: dust mites do not trigger allergies, but their allergens.
