What is Chromotherapy?

Examples of homeostasis include the regulation of temperature and the balance between acidity and alkalinity (pH). It is a process that maintains the stability of the human body’s internal environment in response to changes in external conditions. In this therapy color along with light is applied to specific areas and accupoints on the body. This is an alternative therapy which means any treatment that is not considered of as part of conventional medicine. Beauty professionals use chromotheapy as an exciting new form of healing brought forward from the Atlantean teachings, and is complimentary to such modalities as kinesiology, acupuncture and other natural healing modalities. Also health professionals working different diseases care are becoming more aware of the alternative therapies.

History of Chromotherapy

Chromotherapy is a therapeutic science for Body, Mind and spirit which has been used by many races for thousands of years. Has very deep roots, going all the way back to ancient Egypt, Greece, China and India. The ancient Egyptians believed that their god Thoth gave them the gift of chromotherapy. They, as well as the Greeks, have been known to use colored minerals, gemstones, salves and other naturally colored resources as remedies for ailments in addition to using sunlight as a form of medicine as well. Another example of the employment of chromotherapy during their times can be observed by the various shades of color that the treatment sanctuaries were painted in. In addition to their use of colored natural resources, the ancient Greeks believed that the physical nature of color was the dominant reason why it gave them such benefits. It just helped in finding balance, even if they didn’t understand the physiological effects of using chromotherapy.

Charaka, an ancient Ayurvedic physician who lived in India around the sixth century BC, was also aware of the medical benefits of sunlight and it’s effect on various diseases. The sun would shine through the colored glass onto the patient to achieve specific therapeutic benefits. Others used different colored silk clothes to filter varying shades of light onto their bodies. There is also evidence of others using colored waters and colored gels to achieve the same results.

How Chromotherapy works?

Is a unique technique for improving one’s emotional and physical systems through visible colored lights. Colors is a certain wavelengths of electro-magnetic energy seen through our eyes that affect one’s feelings, moods, and emotions. Color is one of the languages of the soul, just look at inspired or meditative paintings. Also chromotherapy works on our body Chakras.

  • They have their impact on our sense of well-being or un-easiness.
  • Using and avoiding certain colors is a way of self-expression; it sheds light on our personality.
  • Colors affect our way of perception (light colors make a space look big, a high ceiling looks less high when painted in a dark color, etc.)
  • Colors have a symbolic meaning which is immediately recognized by our subconsciousness. It must be said that not all colors mean the same to all persons and all cultures.
  • They influence the flow and amount of energy in our bodies.
  • Colors tell something about biological attraction and sexual availability.

Chakras

Chakras are centers of energy, located on the midline of the body. There are seven of them, and they govern our psychological properties. The chakras located on the lower part of our body are our instinctual side, the highest ones our mental side.

The chakras can have various levels of activity. When they're "open," they're considered operative in a normal fashion. Ideally, all chakras would contribute to our being. Our instincts would work together with our feelings and thinking. However, this is usually not the case. Some chakras are not open enough being under-active, and to compensate, other chakras are over-active. The ideal state is where the chakras are balanced. There exist lots of techniques to balance the chakras.
